Statement of Philosophy on Art, Music and Conducting
The poet Friedrich von Schiller spoke of the "truth behind the beauty" in art. In his words, I sum up my musical quest: to find the truth that prevails beneath the feelings of beauty and pleasure.
My first contact with a work is based on the search for its truth: its essence, its meaning, its purpose, its reason for being and for existing. I hope to find in the art something so essential, so true, human, and necessary that I am compelled to share it.
The role of the conductor is to transmit an idea, an emotion, a feeling to a group of musicians to reach a whole greater than the sum of its parts. It is important for me to create an experience and an encounter between the work, the musicians, and myself. This constantly renewed ephemeral moment is based on the ability to create an artistic environment that is still conducive to the expression of the musicians' individual freedom. The result is an ensemble focused on the joy of playing and sharing in return.
My vision of musical transmission is not only an exchange between the conductor and the orchestra, but an invitation to the audience members who have come to immerse themselves in the art. This is done first and foremost through mediation and the sharing of tools that allow for a better understanding of musical suggestions. It is in this way that I can reconcile the complex depth of music with its accessibility. The ideal angle for its diffusion is the result of a reflection on the heritage of the past and my understanding of its current relevance and importance.
My artistic approach is therefore based on the representation of a common ideal in which is reflected the past and the present and whose purpose is to initiate a reflection on what we hope for the society of tomorrow.
